SKYHAWKS BLACK SHOW COMPETITIVE FIRE
Sep. 4, 2012
Saturday, August 26 - In just their second game as a team, the Skyhawks Black showed improvement that was not visible by the score in their 7-0 defeat to the FFC Vardar Juniors Red. Despite playing their second game in 24 hours in intense humidity, the Skyhawks Black battled with the Vardar Juniors Red the entire contest.
The Vardar Juniors Red had the advantage from the start and took shot after shot against Grace and Bailey, who split the goalkeeping duties on the day. Some exceptional play by a standout Junior Red kept the pressure on the Skyhawks Black all day. There were changes of momentum on a number of occasions, even though the Black couldn’t never put the ball in the back of the Vardar net.
Lola had a number of great runs upfield, and on one occasion, she blasted a shot that went just wide of the goal. Camila found herself staring down a chance after a great run before narrowly missing a goal. Continuing to do what she does best, Lilli secured the ball and passed to teammates time and again. Forwards Caden and Abby H again displayed aggressive play and each almost came away with goals for the second straight game.
The coaches look forward to the next two weeks of practice time to improve a few things that will pay dividends in the coming weeks. Continued effort and teamwork by the girls will help this new team see marked growth as the season goes along.
