Team Rules

No talking when a coach is talking or giving instructions. There will be plenty of time for questions after the coach is done talking.

No walking or sitting on the field during practice or games. All drills and assignments must be jogged to. Practice time is limited, do not waste it. If you are injured or need to catch your breath, raise your hand to alert a coach.

No stopping before completing a drill. No sloughing off, stopping early, or refusing to complete a drill as described. Again, if you are injured or need to catch your breath, raise your hand to alert a coach.

We are a team. Every one of us will make mistakes this year. There will be no insulting, making fun of, or putting down other players on our team. Lets Look and Act like a TEAM!

All Offenses:

10 Minute Time Out.  All Time Out time from practice will be deducted from playing time for the next game.

HSA Player & Parent Expectations

We have the following expectations for the up coming year. Please read them together with your child so that everybody understands what is expected for the upcoming season.

Training Sessions

  • Players are to wear appropriate clothes to all training sessions.
  • Bring plenty of fluids (water and a sports drink) even when it’s not warm.
  • Players are strongly encouraged to arrive 5 to 10 minutes early to assure they are ready for the start of practice.
  • If you arrive late to the training session then, please run to your session!
  • Players must come ready to work hard, listen and have fun.

Remember: Practice does not make perfect, only perfect practice makes perfect - Vince Lombardi.

Match Day

  • PLAYERS will need their uniforms, cleats, socks, shin guards and extra clothes.
  • Always bring both uniforms to all games.
  • Shin guards are to be put on before the game!
  • Players are to arrive 30 minutes prior to game time unless your coach has told you otherwise. The first 5-10 minutes are to prepare your attire (shoes, shin guards, jerseys), the rest of the time is to prepare your body to the conditions (e.g. weather & fields etc.).
  • Equipment and water bottles are to be placed in the back of the box so players and coaches don't trip over them to get on and off the field.
  • Bring plenty of fluids even when it’s not warm (water or a sport’s drink).
  • Players must be courteous to all players, officials, parents and coaches within and outside of the club.

Sideline Behavior – Parents

Please feel free to ENCOURAGE the players as much as possible. We want the players to know you are there and that you support them at all times, however here are some general guidelines;

Please do not coach from the sidelines. This is a player’s game, a player who should be constantly thinking on the pitch (field). It can often be a distraction to the player and it can be difficult to create any kind of unified thought process with directions coming from both sides of the pitch. Please encourage the players and applaud exciting plays for both teams! Please don’t give them specific soccer instructions.

  • Please don’t yell at any referee, referees have bad days as we all do.
  • Regardless, let them do their jobs. Complaining about calls only makes things worse plus it may cause younger referees to quit refereeing. Also, we teach our players to rise above the things they cannot control such as referees. We ask you to do the same.
  • Please don’t engage in banter with the opposition’s parents. Please try not to get caught up in the heat of battle and behave without class, simply remove yourself from the situation. As you expect us to behave with class and respect, we expect the same from you.
  • Finally, never speak to an opposing player or coach, other than to congratulate them. Let the coaches and players take care of business on the field and you can sit back and enjoy watching your child.

Please remember you are a parent, fan, and representative of the Hancock Soccer Association. We ask that in your representation, you do everything you can to uphold the dignity of the players, the soccer club, the directors, the coaches, the other parents of our organization and most importantly, the dignity of the game of soccer.

You are an extension of the Hancock Soccer Association and people take what you say in direct correlation with the overall organization, so please be smart in the choices you make and the things you do and say, as people will see it as a representation of the Hancock Soccer Association.

As we strive to continue the process of improving the team, please keep the lines of communication open. If you are having a problem with something or you have a question about anything please contact your coach or the coaching directors for discussion. Be smart about the timing of discussions, especially if you or the coach may be emotional around the game time, DO NOT APPROACH ANY COACH RIGHT BEFORE OR AFTER GAMES!! This may lead to an emotional discussion, and could have been better discussed and resolved under a calmer environment. The directors/coaches are happy to talk to any of you at the appropriate time regardless of how small the concern or question is.

Here’s to an enjoyable season/year together. We appreciate your commitment and thank you for taking your time to help make your child a better player/person!
