The International Open Baseball Tournament (website linked here: ICOBT) is a casual event, or pick up tournament, where walk on players from a variety of international schools and families in the Tokyo regions come for a summer of baseball. The players abilities, that range from beginner to advanced, are divided into teams to even out abilities and make the games competitive.
The tournament is run at The American School In Japan and the player evaluation, practices and team allocations get underway about mid-April. Games start at the end of April and last to the end of May. There are usually 2 games a day for each team starting from just after lunch, and parents have the option to pitch to their players verses have the other team do so. The ages range from 8 yrs. to 12 yrs., but more talented younger players and less talented older players can expand the age levels set above.
The ICOBT is organized by the privately run West Tokyo Dodgers and this team is for more serious baseball families, as it competes against Japanese teams and takes on all comers from any of the interntional junior varsity school teams, despite the age advantage for the JH teams.
