Jun 10, 2018 - Stullken Talks Defense and Confidence

Fishers High School Power Forward Lydia Stullken talks high school ball, confidence, defense, and summer plans.

IM: How has your June been going with HS ball?

LS: So far, my June has been going well. My team is coming together and growing which is good because we are a young team. I am looking forward to a good season with them.

IM: What has been the biggest thing you have been working on to improve?

LS: Over this past year, I have been working on my one- on- one post moves. I have been known as more of a defensive player, which I love, but I know that if I want to take my game to the next level I need to be able to make low post moves around a defender at a pretty high rate.

IM: You have been great all spring. It seems you are very confident out there. What has changed with your game?

LS: I have decided that I need to start making every possession count, which has allowed me to play better. If I focus on what is happening when it’s happening, I play a lot better and that is what I have been doing.

IM: The college coaches have really commented on how you change the game with your high IQ on defense. Have you always had a defensive mind set?

LS: I really do enjoy playing defense, I feel like it takes more thinking than offense and it’s what wins games. It is my place to prove that I am better than the person that I am defending. Defense also allows me to control the game, if I want my match up to feel uncomfortable or speed them up, I can make that my goal.

IM: In the July period what are you looking forward to the most?

LS: I’m really looking forward to improving my offensive game. Especially in AAU, I feel like I can take the footwork that I’ve learned in practice and apply it to a game which will help me the most if I want to improve it.

IM: Are you planning on attending any camps this summer?

LS: This summer I am planning on attending the Eastern Kentucky University camp, the University of Indianapolis camp, and possibly the Indiana State camp and Dayton camp if I am not doing school basketball at that time.

IM: Tell us about your first Indiana All Star experience?

CT: It was a great experience meeting new people and playing with the best in the state.

IM: How do you feel you played?

CT: I played alright i could’ve been more aggressive on offense but i thought i played well defensively

IM: Who did you think played the best of both the juniors and senior teams?

CT: Garcia and Jorie Allen on my team played well. Amy Dilk and Angel baker played well for the seniors.

IM: With having this experience what are your goals for yourself going into July and next season?
