POLAR BEARS EDGE EAGLES TO ADVANCE IN PLAYOFFS
May. 22, 2017
Saturday afternoon the Jackson Polar Bears took on St. Edward in their regional quarterfinal match-up. The Polar Bears were able to avenge their one goal regualr season loss to the Eagles and prevailed 6-2.
Offensively, the Polar Bears struggled to take care of the ball, but got the job done when it counted. John Thomas was a one man wrecking crew and tallied five goals and six groundballs on the day, including two in the last two minutes of the game to put it away. Sam Shew did a great job between the lines and scored a big goal in the fourth quarter to go along with four groundballs. Chance Clevenger won some crucial faceoffs in the second half and also had an assist.
Defensively, the team was outstanding! Everyone followed the scout and kept St. Edward to outside shots which lead to an 18 save performance from Adam Kelly in goal. The starting poles of Chase Altier, Ian Gelal, and Ted Stuhldreher held the starting attack of St. Edward to two goals (one on man-up). Trent Thomas played a major role in the transition game. The defense hopes to continue this momentum moving forward.
The Polar Bears now advance to the regional semi-finals and will head to Hoover on Wednesday. Game time is set for 7:00pm.
