From staff reports
BERWICK - Despite an impressive performance from beyond the arc by Whitney Corbin, Indian Valley could do little else on offense Monday dropping its opening game of the Judy Knorr girls basketball tournament with Central Columbia, 43-38.
The Warriors were down just three points after the first quarter and six at halftime, but struggled to close the gap with the Blue Jays.
"I'm disappointed we didn't get a win because the team was always in reach," Indian Valley coach Roger Herto said. "With a minute to go (the lead is) down to five. We just couldn't get anything consistently going. We had a hard time doing stuff offensively."
Besides Corbin's team-high 13 points, teammate Sammie Chestnut had 12 - eight of which came in the final period. Herto was disappointed with the fact that his team got beat with some fundamental points and looked outplayed on the court.
"I thought we just didn't play 32 minutes of basketball," he said.
Indian Valley (3-3) plays Selinsgrove, loser Monday to Berwick, today in the tournament consolation game at 6 p.m.
