IV Girls Lose Season Opener
Dec. 13, 2010
Shamokin 64, Indian Valley 24
from STAFF REPORTS
SHAMOKIN - Indian Valley girls basketball coach Roger Herto opened his second tenure as coach Saturday with a 64-24 loss to Shamokin.
The Warriors struggled to make shots early on, Herto said, as Indian Valley tallied just two first-quarter points.
"I think had we gotten off to a better start, we would have been OK, but we just couldn't put the ball in the hoop," he said.
Indian Valley shot just 14 percent from the floor in the game, but was still able to cut the score to 29-13 at the half. However, it was all Indians in the second half as Shamokin cruised to a victory.
"It's basically a learning process for us until we get our feet under us and see where we're at," Herto said. "I liked the effort from our kids. There's things to build on there. I think we'll be alright by the end of the season, there's just going to be a big learning curve early on here."
Indian Valley (0-1) will hold its home opener on Wednesday against Juniata.
