May 6, 2017 - Tait's OT Goal Downs Palatine
Lane (7-3) travelled to Palatine High School to take on the winless Pirates (0-12). Senior attackman, Brian Tait, opened the scoring for Lane, scored the tying goal in regulation, and then the winner in the second overtime to secure the victory. Tait finished with six goals and three assists in the game.
The game was close throughout. 2-2 at the end of the first quarter and 4-4 at half time. It wasn't until the waning minutes of the game that Palatine pulled ahead 12-10. Junior midfielder, Vince Wilkinson, ripped a high shot on the run to close the gap to 12-11. But a defensive breakdown gave Palatine a two man advantage in the final two minutes.
The defense redeemed itself with strong defensive play, particularly from Jacob Berry and Dane Holmes who came on in relief, and caused a turnover. With just over a minute in the game and still two men down, Tait restarted with the ball just inside the 50. Double-teamed, he split the defenders and ran to the goal, threw off a defender with a fake pass, and fired what any coach would consider to be an ill-advised shot (down two men) into the top-left corner to tie the game.
Palatine won the ensuing face-off and down one man with under a minute to go Lane's defense held strong. Squandered opportunities in the first four minute OT moved the game into the second OT where Palatine took an untimely penalty and gave Lane a man up opportunity.
Senior attackman, Jeff Gavin, moved the ball from X to Tait on the wing who shot low, but missed the net. Gavin backed up the shot and on the restart Gavin attacked again from X, but dished to Tait on the wing who ripped one off the inside post to win the game.
In the middle, junior midfielder, Vince Wilkinson, had a big day with 3 goals. Senior midfielder, Phil Syzmanski pitched in with two goals and an assist. Senior midfielder, Jon Starr, was instrumental on the clear bringing the ball safely to the offense on many occassions.
Sophomore Thomas West was in goal and came up with some big saves and great clears.
Scorers on the day were Brian Tait (6G/3A), Vince Wilkinson (3G), Phil Szymanski (2G/1A), Jeff Gavin (1G/2A), Ike Wolf (1G), and Jon Starr (1A).
The varsity meets in-conference rival, Lake Forest Academy (7-3) on Tuesday in Lake Forest.
The Lane JV team won 8-1 in the preceding game.
Apr 22, 2017 - Lane Rebounds on Wolf's Four Goals
Junior attackman, Ike Wolf, scored four goals to lead Lane Tech (3-3) past Homewood Flossmoor (0-6) in Flossmoor. The game was close from end to end with no team leading by more than a goal until the very end when Lane put it away 8-6.
The ball spent a lot of time on Lane's end, but the defense held strong and goaltender Max Velazquez made 16 saves to keep Lane in the game. Sophomore, Dillon O'Keefe, was the better midfiedler on face-offs, further helping Lane's opportunities. The transition game was key to Lane's victory as Homewood Flossmoor struggled to counter Lane's fastbreak opportunities.
Scorers were Ike Wolf (4G/1A), Brian Tait (1G, 4A), Jon Starr (1G/1A), Vince Wilkinson (1G/1A), and Jeff Gavin (1G).

Apr 20, 2017 - Slow Start Dooms Lane
A slow start and Lane found themselves down 9-1 at halftime against Oak Forest. The offense couldn't get much going and the defense spent a lot of time trying to get the ball back to the offense. Vince Wilkinson scored the only goal for Lane in the first half on a dodge down the alley and a high hard shot that found the top right coner of the net.
It's wasn't until the 4th quarter that Lane began to show the talent they've demonstrated in recent games. Using speed, Vince Wilkinson scored again in the 2nd half to get Lane going with another high hard shot. In a man down situation, James Coyne, senior defenseman, forced a turnover, scooped up the ground ball and quickly fired a pass over the midline that resulted in an assist from Ike Wolf to Brian Tait.
Tait then assisted Wolf for Lane's fourth goal. Then another to junior, Roman Treuthart, who deftly grabbed Tait's off shoulder pass and buried it far post. Tait then scored his second of the game for Lane's sixth goal. But time had run out. Final score was 11-6.
Max Velazquez had a nuymber of saves in goal for Lane. Scorers were Brian Tait (2G/2A), Vince Wilkinson (2G), Ike Wolf (1G/1A), Roman Treuthart (1G).
