Club Notes

Oct. 17, 2016

We made it safely in to the third round of the Junior Cup following an excellent display against a youthful Dundela Reserves team on Saturday. We started brightly and pinned Dundela back for most of the opening period, creating a few openings and forcing several corners early on. We broke the deadlock when a great run and cross by Ryan O’Keefe was eventually bundled over the line by Robbie Little, who was making his first start of the season.

Our perfect start continued shortly after when Raymond Carroll doubled our advantage with a powerful header from an O’Keefe corner. We continued to press and when Kyle McCleery fed Tiernan Magee, the striker eased past the last defender and slotted past the helpless keeper. Matty Woods was next on the scoresheet, firing home from a very acute angle at the back post from another O’Keefe corner. A superb first half performance had seen us completely dominate proceedings and we went in at the break with a handsome lead.

The second half was played at a slower pace and lacked the fluency of the first period. Credit to Dundela, they kept working hard and playing football some neat football but they found it difficult to get past Carroll and Stuart Cochrane who were in fine form in the heart of our defence. On the one occasion they did get a sight at goal, William McFrederick was out quickly and smothered the danger.

At the other end, Sam Lindsay made it five with a smart finish from the edge of the area, and sub Jack Kerr finished coolly to complete the scoring as he bagged his first goal for the club. A great team performance, and thanks for Dundela for a good game of football and their hospitality after the game.

Not so much joy for our three youth teams as they all suffered defeats. Both the U12s and U19s lost out in cup matches, whilst the U16s suffered a league defeat. However, there were plenty of positives and results will soon start going our way if we keep putting in the effort at training.

This weekend the First plays Enniskillen Town (h), the Res face Enniskillen Town (a) and the Thirds play Lisnaskea Rovers Res (a).

No winners in the lotto this week. Results for 15/10/2016 were 08, 19, 21 and 23. £15 hot picks went to Dylan Connolly, Betty McCleery and Sean Magee. Next Week’s Jackpot is £7800 and tickets are on sale in the Glencar or can be purchased online.

On Friday 4th November we are having a "Dander in the Dark" to raise club funds. Please keep the date free and come along if you can. Walk starts at 8.30pm from the Parish Centre and there will be refreshments afterwards.
