Magic City goes 2-2... again!

Box Score

Jul. 30, 2007

For the second straight tournament, Magic City plays .500 ball and finishes 2-2 on the weekend.  The first game saw MC defeat a fiesty Charleston team that went 14-2 during the spring.  Magic City held on to a 9-8 victory.

The second game was heart break city.  MC tied the game with Louisville 4-4 with about 6 minutes left in regulation and that's how the score would stay until 5 seconds left in the third overtime.  Louisville snuck one past the MC keeper, Country, and won in thrilling and exhausting fashion.

With a bit of a let down from the OT x 3 loss, MC struggled with a pretty solid Asheville squad.  Asheville won easily and left the mighty Green and Grey with a less than stellar 1-2 record going into Sunday.  However, a rematch with Louisville appeared to be the draw for early Sunday, motivating the guys to finish strong on the last day.

Unfortunately, Louisville gave the tournament director some LAME excuse about playing us too much (We have now played Louisvlle a total of 4 times EVER.  We play Memphis like 4 times a year!!!)  Anyway, they were clearly not up for a rematch, so we ended up playing a team called Pink out of Columbia, SC.  Slightly frustrated by the turn of events, MC unleashed on Pink, leaving Asheville and the Bele Chere/Blue Ridge Classic with a 6-2 victory.

MVP of the tournament was our last minute pickup, Country the Goalie.  He stepped up big in several games and we appreciate his effort.

Next stop, Greenville SC and the Greenville Tournament on Aug 18-19, but only after the annual Green vs White alumni game this weekend, Aug 4.  More info to come.
