The City of San Fernando is located in the southwestern part of the island of Trinidad, sitting at the base of the oddly shaped landmark hill. San Fernando is called Trinidad's "industrial capital" because of its proximity to the Pointe-a-Pierre oil refinery and many other petrochemical, LNG, iron and steel and aluminium smelters in places such as Point Lisas, Point Fortin, and La Brea. La Brea is also home to the world famous La Brea Pitch Lake, the chief tourist attraction in the southern region.

The Manny Ramjohn Stadium, located in Marabella (City of San Fernando), Trinidad and Tobago, is named for long-distance runner Manny Ramjohn, one of the first persons to represent Trinidad and Tobago at the Olympics (1948). The stadium was constructed for the 2001 FIFA U-17 World Cup which was hosted by Trinidad and Tobago
