The club had a fantastic weekend at the short course North Eastern Regional Championships which were held at the Sunderland Aquatic Centre this weekend. The gala is slightly different to normal galas, the 50m pool is split in 2 with the Senior/Junior Competition in one half and the Age Group swimmers in the other half. A bit of a logistical nightmare at times when there is only one coach there.
The Senior/Junior Competition had 3 swimmers competing, Hannah Featherstone, Matthew Bradley and Zac Hodgkinson. All 3 swam well over the weekend with heats being held on the morning and finals on the afternoon. Hannah came away with Gold medals in the 100 and 200m freestyle and 100m backstroke, she finished in 2nd position in the 50 free and 4th in the 400m freestyle. Matthew came away with 4 medals, 2 were silver in the 50 breast and 50 freestyle and 2 bronze medals were won in hte 200m breaststroke and 200m Individual Medley, he also finished in 4th position in hte 100m breaststroke.
In the Age Group competition we again had 3 swimmers, Jessica and Rebecca Hall and Niall Coulthard. Of the 17 swims they had between them 14 were personal best times. Niall also medalled in 200m freestyle, where he came away with a Gold medal and in the 50 freestyle he came away with a bronze medal.
All the swimmers were a credit to the club and did well against the best swimmers from the North of England.
The Club AGM will be held on Thursday 10th December at 7.30pm in the Pioneering Care Centre, Carer's Way, Newton Aycliffe, County Durham DL5 4SF. The club currently runs with a small committee, of which only 1 member has a swimmer currently swimming in the club. The committee is looking to expand with new members and we are looking to recruit new members onto committee to help with the day to day running of the club. We need your support to help the club move forward throughout the new year. If you are interested on any of positions within the committee please speak to Emma.
We have been made aware that the pool refurbishments at St Johns are not complete and the pool will not be available for the club to use this week. We are looking to see if there are any other alternatives and we will let you know.
