There will be an opportunity for swimmers and parents to attend a land training session on Sunday 23rd April, in the Willow Room, at the Leisure Centre between 3 and 4pm. This session is open to all swimmers in A and B Squad. Please let Julie or Emma know if you are interested in coming along. Philip used to swim with Sedgefield 75 before training as a personal trainer. He will show swimmers (and parents) exercises that will strengthen their core stability, which will help in swimming.
The E.S.S.A. National Championships were held on the 11th and 12th of March at Liverpool. The club had been aware for some time that Hannah Featherstone had been selected for the North Eastern Region to compete in the E.S.S.A Championships.
The freestyle events had been the main focus of her training leading up to this event. What came as a wonderful surprise was that she had been made Girls Team Captain.
The capacity crowd helped create a tremendous atmosphere producing some nail biting races and superb times.
The North Eastern Team finished the gala in third place overall.
The role of captain in any sport is to lead by example and this Hannah did in no uncertain manner.
Hannah competed in the FS Team winning the sliver medal and bronze in the Medley Team.
In her individual events Hannah won took the gold medal in both the 200 and 100 freestyle and the silver medal in the 200 Backstroke.
Throughout the gala swimmers are awarded FINA points that relate to the times they have achieved. This year for the first time a trophy was to be awarded to the swimmer with the highest number of points.
Hannah’s total number of points was 755 which was the highest score of all competitors and she was presented with the trophy. Hers will be the first name to be engraved on the trophy
