Two of Sedgefield 75 ASC’s swimmers were honoured to be selected as part of the England North swimming team at this year’s Sainsbury’s UK School Games. The games which took place from the 4th to the 7th of September 2014 in various locations around Manchester involved 1600 athletes from various sporting disciplines. The swimming competition was held at the Manchester Aquatics Centre in the centre of the city and involved teams from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Sedgefi eld 75 ASC’s Hannah Featherstone aged 15 swam in three events. She took the bronze medal in the girls 200M freestyle event achieving a time of 2.05.74. She then swam in the girls 4 x 100M freestyle relay team swimming a very strong second leg of the relay in which the England North girls team took the gold medal. Hannah also competed in the girls 4 x 200M freestyle relay team in which she swam on the last leg of the event and brought the team home to take their second gold medal in the girls team events.Matthew Bradley aged 16 was Sedgefi eld 75 ASC’s second swimmer to be chosen for the Town Swimmers Shine at UK School GamesEngland North team. Matthew competed in the men’s 50M freestyle event taking the bronze medal in a time of 24.71 seconds. Matthew then swam the third leg of the men’s 4 x 100M freestyle taking the team into the lead after his swim and the team held on to take the gold medal in the event. Matthew also took part in the men’s individual 100M freestyle in which he achieved a time of 54.75.
Sedgefi eld 75 competed at their first competitive meet of the season at Billingham forum last Sunday. The club has only been back to full training for past two weeks after a summer break and only took a young squad, so it was a fantastic result when all swimmers attending came close or beat last their personal bests. Attending swimmers: Grace Dutchburn, Niall Coulthard, Katelyn Craig, Alyssa Craggs, Kate Tolley, Jessica Hall, Rebecca Hall, Zac Hodgkinson, Haydn Craggs, Netanya Alwis, Lauren Chatt & Viven Alwis.Attending Coach Lee Craggs commented, “The squad has trained hard over the last couple of weeks to get back into race condition, and hopefully we can build on these results in the coming season”.
