Coach Todd Reusch likes to tell his Pee Wee Giants team to "... go out and have fun and try to win the game" before each game. Well, thats exactly what happened as the Giants (8-3-1) captured the Pee Wee League tournament championship title by defeating the Pirates (10-2) on Saturday afternoon, May 21, 2011 at Collins Hill Park, Field 7. The final score was 9 - 2. With outdoor temperature tipping 90 degrees, the Giants were on FIRE!
The Giants last game of the regular season did not go as they would have expected. The Giants were out played by the Phillies with a 4-2 loss on Saturday, May 14, 2001. It was a mid-day game with temperatures a little cooler than normal. Metaphorically speaking, the Giants seemed to not be as hot during the final game, either.
The Giants came prepared for a battle Saturday as they took on the Braves in their second game of the day on May 7, 2011. With less than a half hour of rest between their first and second game, the Giants were not unraveled. Was it the hotdogs that did it or was it just the awesome team work and coaching efforts by Giant team that brought home the victory?? Regardless, the Giants reigned throughout the game and brought home the win with a 15 – 3 victory over the Braves.
Saturday’s game against the Cubs was the first of two games played by the Giants on May 7, 2011. With no field practice for the past two weeks, due to seasonal rain, the Giants did not appear to be rusty at all. The Giants were able to pull off another win against the Cubs in their second match up of the season with a final score of 15 -5.
The Giants were handed their second lost of the season on Saturday, April 30 to the Pirates with a final score of 10 – 1. The Giants have not found a way to top the Pirates this season, as both losses were to the Pirates.
The Giants had the night off last night, but you couldn't tell by the way the boys were playing and enjoying themselves out at Coolray Stadium. The Collins Hills Athletic Association Baseball League was well represented at the Gwinnett Braves Coolray stadium last night during the Gwinnett Braves /Collins Hill Night Event, where the Gwinnett Braves hosted the Columbus Clippers. This was the first CHAA Baseball Spring 2011 park event where teams from all leagues participated in various functions throughout the evening at the stadium.
