Giants Hold Off Cubs with a 8-6 Late Rally Win

Box Score

Apr. 1, 2011

The Giants proved on last night, March 31, 2011,  that it takes more than being a few runs behind to ruffle their feathers. The Cubs took an early 4-0 lead in the first inning and held the lead for first three out of five innings. The Giants added another win to their streak with a 8-6 victory over the Cubs.

The Cubs looked really good last night, but they were no match for the Giants late breaking offense and defense. After hitting a pop fly out in the first inning, Nick Best (short stop, circle) followed up with a great hit that resulted in a double and an RBI in the fourth inning. This hit made way for the Giants to later tie the game and ultimately over take the lead in the final inning.

Ethan Reusch, who is the Giants lead first baseman, started the night on the pitcher’s mound. Ethan had a great inning pitching and took over first base for the remainder of the game where he made numerous great plays.

The late defensive plays made by Nick Best at circle helped him to secure the game ball for the night. Nick stopped several balls and finished the play with throws to first base, resulting in multiple outs. Congrats, Nick on getting the game ball! You Rock!

The coaches would like to work with the players on picking up more hits off of kid's pitch, as the kids will begin pitching more innings after their Spring Break. However, overall, the coaches were really proud of how the team fought back to bring home the win.

The Giants will get little rest, as they take on the Phillies on tonight.
