Giants Spank Phillies, 11-1

Box Score

Apr. 2, 2011

UNBELIEVABLE!!  The Giants are on a roll!  In a game where the Giants were coming off of a less than 24-hour rest, they won big by only allowing one run in a home game against the Phillies.  The final score was 11 - 1.  It may have been April 1, but the Giants were taking no part in April Fools' Day!  The whole team was alive in the late night game.

The Giants looked good throughout the night on defense.  Nick Best started off at the pitching mound in the first inning.  Nick did a good job on the mound and finished the inning with no runs scored.  Ben Neadow took over the mound during the second inning where he struck out a couple players, also allowing no runs.  One of the most memorable defensive plays came early in the game when Ethan Reusch made an unassisted double play, catching a pop-fly and tagging the runner out at first.  This was the Giants' first double play of the season.

Although, the Giants held the Phillies, the Giants offense owned the night! The players were awesome tonight, as most of the team acheived at least a base hit.  With so many great offensive plays, the coaches decided to award two game balls.

The first game ball went to outfielder, John Tillman!  John had a great hit that landed him a single.  John's hit created a great deal of excitement in the stands and the dugout.  Coach Todd also congratulated him for picking up his first scoring run of the season and complimented him on how well he listened to the coaches. Congratulations, John!  You were totally awesome.

The second game ball was awarded to the catcher/3rd-basemen, Nicolas Carrasquero! Nicolas had two great hits during the the game.  The first was a triple that drove in 3 runs!  The second hit was a double, with a Phillies error that landed him on 3rd-Base. More importantly, his second hit drove in two additional runs for the Giants.  Nicolas, are you cool or what??  Fantastic Job, Nicolas!  What a way to start your Spring Break!

The coaches thought that the whole team deserved recognition for the great game that was played against the Phillies.  It was a true team effort and each player deserves the week of rest, while off on Spring Break.

A special thanks goes out to Ms. Regan Melton, Mckendree Elementary 2nd grade teacher, who came out to support her students Cameren Christian and Nicholas Best from the Giants and Aiman L. from the opposing Phillies team.  We always love it when teachers support our kids in their extra curricular activities, as well as academics.

Upon returning from their break, the Giants will head back to the practice field to prepare to take on the Pirates on April 19.
