Gwinnett Braves / Collins Hill Night

Apr. 30, 2011

The Giants had the night off last night, but you couldn't tell by the way the boys were playing and enjoying themselves out at Coolray Stadium.  The Collins Hills Athletic Association Baseball League was well represented at the Gwinnett Braves Coolray stadium last night during the Gwinnett Braves /Collins Hill Night Event, where the Gwinnett Braves hosted the Columbus Clippers.  This was the first CHAA Baseball Spring 2011 park event where teams from all leagues participated in various functions throughout the evening at the stadium.

The day started with fans watching the Gwinnett Braves as they took the field for pre-game practice.  Most of our Giants players participated along with other CHAA baseball teams in the parade event where players marched out of the field and where cheered on by the spectators.  That was just the beginning of the fun for the Giants.  There were inflatables for the kids to bounce around and other great games as well.  Not only were they able to play with their teammates, but also with other CHAA park friends.

As the Gwinnett Braves game began, most fans took their seats to enjoy the game action.  As for the Giants, many of the Giants teammates decided to make their own action as they secured a play area at the top of the stands to play their own games.  As the night went on, the Giants found their way back to the stands to watch the Gwinnett Braves battle it out with the Clippers.

The game had some exciting moments.  The G-Braves however, was not able to hold on to their 5-3 lead.  The Clippers came back to tie the game in the eigth and took the lead to finish out the game in the ninth-inning with a 8-5 victory over the G-Braves.  This was not a good series for the G-Braves and they were swept by the Clippers.

Though the game ended late, some of the Giants stuck around for the fireworks Finale.  As most kids find fireworks to be exciting to watch, tonight was no different.  What an awesome way to end the night.

This was a big fundraising event for the CHAA Baseball League.  Congratulations to Ryan Roberson, who sold the most tickets (28 tickets) for the Giants teams.  Ryan also was the top sellers for the Pee Wee league.  As a result of his fantastic job selling tickets, Ryan was selected to announce the Gwinnett Braves players at the start of the game.  Great Job Ryan!

On a more somber note, one of the Giant teammates injured himself while at the stadium.  Charles Sanchez cut his knee while at the park.  We hope he is doing well and heals quickly.  Our thoughts are with you Charles.

The weekend festivities continues today for our boys with another fundraising event for the CHAA Baseball League with a Green vs. White Jamboree and a Giants baseball game at 1:30 against the Pirates.  Good Luck Giants!
