Giants Lose Their Last Regular Season Game Against Phillies
May. 15, 2011
The Giants last game of the regular season did not go as they would have expected. The Giants were out played by the Phillies with a 4-2 loss on Saturday, May 14, 2001. It was a mid-day game with temperatures a little cooler than normal. Metaphorically speaking, the Giants seemed to not be as hot during the final game, either.
Nick Best was up first at the pitcher’s mound for the Giants. With three runs scored by the Phillies in the first inning, Nick followed up in the second inning with strike-outs, while also allowing an additional run in the second inning. Charles Sanchez came in to relieve Nick in the third inning and did a great job at the mound where he pitched a shut out inning in the third inning. Charles remained unraveled and followed up with another shut out inning in the fourth.
The Giants had several players to get on base, but were not able to find a rhythm getting hits as they have been so notably known for this season. Ethan Reusch scored the first run for the Giants. However, the play of the game came in the third inning when Ryan Roberson hit his first in-park homerun of the season. The Giants fans cheered him on as he rounded the bases and made it across home plate. What an awesome hit Ryan!
Coach Todd noted that the team’s offense must be strong in the playoffs, as well as the defense. He pointed out that the players must continue to pay attention when out on the field. Although no errors were caused due to inattention, Coach Todd told the players that they must remain attentive and not allow this to happen during the playoffs.
Coach Todd gave the final season game ball to Tesha Best, the Giants team mom, for her efforts during the season.
The Giants will begin the playoffs on Monday, May16 in a game against the visiting Cubs. The playoffs are single-game elimination, with the Championship game scheduled for Saturday, May 21. The Giants are planning to go all the way! So, come out to support the team and help cheer them on to Championship Victory!
