Giants Still Alive in the Playoffs with a Win over the Cubs

Box Score

May. 17, 2011

The Giants won their first playoff game against the Cubs on Monday evening, May 16, 2011 against the visiting Cubs.  The final score was 4 – 3.

This was a pretty quiet game for the Giants with not much action from the team’s offense.  The Giants were able to hold a 3 – 0 lead through the 4th – Inning.  However, the Cub snuck up on the Giants to tie the game in the Fourth.

Charles Sanchez pitched the first two innings.  Charles had another great night and shut out the Cubs, allowing no runs.  Ethan Reusch pitched the 3rd –Inning and continued the Cubs shut out.  With two runs scored in the 4th –Inning, Ben Neadow came in later in the inning.  A third run was scored with Ben at the mound, which tied the game.  With three players on base and no outs, the pressure was on!  With single game elimination in the back of the fans minds, the stands felt the pressure as well.   So what does Ben do?? Well, Ben strikes out the next three batters to retire the inning!

The Giants were at the bottom of their line up and were able to load the bases with walks. Later, the Giants scored a run to top the Cubs and end the game.

The Giants will continue in the playoffs on Thursday.  They will face the winner of the Phillies versus Braves game.  Way to hang tough, Giants!!!
