The Giants are the Champions, My Friends

Box Score

May. 22, 2011

Coach Todd Reusch likes to tell his Pee Wee Giants team to "... go out and have fun and try to win the game" before each game.  Well, thats exactly what happened as the Giants (8-3-1) captured the Pee Wee League tournament championship title by defeating the Pirates (10-2) on Saturday afternoon, May 21, 2011 at Collins Hill Park, Field 7.  The final score was 9 - 2.  With outdoor temperature tipping 90 degrees, the Giants were on FIRE!

The Giants played the Pirates during regular season, but fell short in both games.  Until yesterday, the Giants did not have an answer for the Pirates' great team.  But the Giants waited patiently yesterday as the answers poured in.  Coach Todd was estatic and said that everything just clicked and gelled together offensively and defensively.  The Giants have had some of their best pitching performance during the playoff season.  The Giants also picked up on their offense as their line up scored the runs that have been lacking recently.

The day started with Nick Best at the mound.  Nick pitched the first inning.  With three players on base and a single out, Nick followed up with two consecutive strikeouts to get the Giants out of the inning unharmed by any opponent runs.  Charles Sanchez had an awesome game.  Charles pitched the next three innings.   The Pirates had to have been frustrasted as Charles shut them out completely during the second and third innings.  While going through the Pirates lineup, Charles only offered up two runs to the Pirates.  The Giants left their season finale to their closer, Ben Neadow.  As imagined by the Giants team and fans, Ben gave them exactly what they wanted.  Ben closed out the inning, securing the win for the Giants.

There were also a couple other notable defensive plays. Cameren Christian tagged a runner out while trying to advance to 2nd-Base, helping to close out the second inning.  Ethan Reusch caught a pop-fly at first base which closed out the third inning.

The Giants looked just as great on offense.  After a disappointing first inning, Cameren Christian inevitably got the team and crowd going with a triple that resulted in 2 RBI's.  As if pitching was not enough for Charles Sanchez, Charles followed suit in the third inning and landed a triple that resulted in 3 RBI's.  Charles also hit a double in a later inning.  Ethan Reusch had a great hit also and rounded the bases for double.  Nicolas Carrasquero had two singles.  Kian Lindsey also hustled to the base to land a single.  While other Giants also got on base, it was really evident that this team had "winning" on their mind.

This was a great win for the Giants.  The players have worked hard all season and truly deserve this honor.  They defeated the Pirates, who also have a great team.  As this is Coach Todd's first Championship Win, congratulations goes out to him and his great coaching staff  (Steve Neadow, Art Best, Carl Christian and Wes Neadow). YOU ALL ROCK!!!
