 Game Summaries of 2008

Game 1

P.J. Bennett and Ted Pratt had 5 rbi's and Pratt hit a home run in this see-saw battle with the tough Dirtbag squad.

The Dirtbags were able to muster a run in the bottom of the ninth to give the Sidewinders a defeat 8-7 at Southside HS.

Game 2

Ted Pratt pitched 6 strong innings and gave up only one earned run. He also had 4 rbi's!

When Pratt tired, the Red Sox were able to establish a ralley on the back of 7 walks by the releif corps! This let the Sox back into the game before the Sidwinders were able to score again and take the game 11-7 at Berkmar

Game 3

Ted Pratt Pitched 6 innings of shut-out ball and gave up 1 unearned run in the 7th before being relieved by Zach John. Cody Carlson, playing his first game for the Sidewinders on a weekend home from UGA, came up big with 3 hits and 3 rbi's.

Justin Alexander had a big 2 rbi double and Bryan Myers had an rbi double as well.

The Sidwinders improved their record to 2-1 in the young season at Shamrock on Sunday.

Game 4

Ted Pratt was once again the star of the game with fantastic pitching - 14 strikeouts over 8 innings and giving up only one earned run. He also made two fantastic catches in center field in the 9th to end the game.

Ben Wallace came up big with a line shot ground rule double and 2 rbi's. Bryan Carroll, Justin Alexander and Cord Stribling also contributed rbi's.

The Sidewinders defeated the first place Tigers 5-4 with 3 late unearned runs at Meadowcreek to take a share of first place.

This week is an off week due to Mother's Day

Game 5

Marco Laureano and Ben Wallace came up big with 2 rbi's each and Ted Pratt went 5-5 as the Sidewinders pounded the Barons (AL) 10-4 at Meadowcreek on Sunday. Ted also had 2 rbi's and struck out 9 in six innings while giving up only 1 unearned run.

Bryan Carroll, Kevin Schmidt and Alex Stephens also had rbi's and a pair of hits.

The play of the game was a bases loaded diving double play by Ben Wallace, who tagged third and then threw a tough hop to Alex Stephens at first. Alex made an incredible scoop while stretching to keep on the bag.

Off Week Scrimmage Game

The Sidewinders played an off-schedule scrimmage game with the Black Sox at Lost Mountain Park on Memorial Day Weekend. Ted Pratt struck out 7 in the first 3 innings before being relieved. The Sidewinders triumphed 12-3.

Game 6

The Cyclones started with a vengenance and stopped the Sidewinders' 5 game winning streak with 13 runs in the first inning!

The good guys played tough after the shocking beginning, outscoring the tough Cyclones 10-8, but lost by a huge margin, 21-11. Ben Wallace pitched 4 innings of excellent relief in his first pitching performance of the year.

Game 7

The Sidewinders got back on the winning track for this Thursday night make-up game with the Angels, which had been rained out earlier. Alex Stephens pitched 4 innings while striking out 7 and giving up only two runs. Jimmy Beitz came in on the hill to shut the door.

The Sidewinders offense was hot, with Alex Stephens, Cody Carlson and Zach John all contributing 3 rbi's. The Sidewinders run-ruled the Angels 20-3 in 6 1/2 innings.

Game 8

The heat wave in Atlanta was the story of this game. It was very humid and 103 degrees during the game. The Sidewinders offense was anemic, posting a season low .250 average for the game, losing to the White Sox 8-3 Sunday at Lithia Springs.

The game was tight at 4-3 when Ted Pratt tired in the 7th. The White Sox then put a 4 spot on the board against PJ Bennett. A controversial umpire call - calling a strike 3 on a hit-batsman (Bryan Carroll) created an uproar and ended a promising 8th inning with 2 runners on.

Marco Laureano had two hits and Cord Stribling, Zach John and Pratt had rbi's.

Game 9

The Sidewinders rebounded with a 14-5 victory over the Braves at Berkmar. Zach John had 2 rbi's and Ben Wallace had 3 rbi's in the game.

Ben Wallace Pitched well and was relieved in the 5th by Justin Alexander. Hopefully, the Sidewinders are back on the winning track!

Game 10

The Sidewinders put a hurt on the Patriots at South Cobb, winning 11-3. Ben Wallace pitched a great game, pitching 8 strong innings while striking out 7 and giving up only 3 runs. Justin Alexander closed the game out in the 9th, facing the minimum with one strike out. Ted Pratt went 4-5 and Justin Alexander went 3-4 with 2 rbi's. Kevin Schmidt had 3 rbi's.

Thanks to Coach Bill Carroll for filling in while Coach John was in Korea.

Game 11

The Sidewinders played a midweek game as a make-up for an earlier rainout Wednesday night at Meadowcreek against the Muckdogs. It was a see-saw hard fought game with great pitching from Ted Pratt, Justin Alexander and Zach John.

The Sidewinders scored in the first, but a huge error allowed two Muckdog runs to score. The Sidewinders came back and led 5-4 at the end of the game. Another error by the good guys allowed the Muckdogs their final run and the game ended in a tie 5-5.

Game 12

The Sidewinders brought their wooping sticks and had 25 hits against a good Dragons squad, winning 23-5 Sunday at Berkmar. Newcomer Cory Brown had two doubles and a triple with 5 rbi's. 7 players had a multi-hit game, with huge hits and rbi's from Marco Laureano, Justin Alexander and Kevin Schmidt.

Ted Pratt took a no-hitter into the 5th innning and was relieved by Zach John who had several strike outs. With a gametime temperature of 98 degrees, the Sidewinders dispelled the rumor that they could not hit when it was ultra-hot outside! Our record stands at 8-3-1.

Game 13

The Sidewinders bad luck on hot days at little Lithia Springs field continued as they lost 13-9 against the Ghosts. Ben Wallace was touched up for 7 runs in the first two innings. Zach John came in and shut the door for 6 innings as the Sidewinders staged a come-back to get within 1 at 10-9. But the Ghosts were able to muster 3 runs off of Justin Alexander to take the win.

Kevin Schmidt's hitting continued to be red hot. Simms for the Ghosts threw 162 pitches and a complete game.

Game 14

The Sidewinders were a bit lethargic at this hot 4pm Sunday game that was moved to Pebble Brook. The Bombers 2nd baseman hit a home run in the first inning and never looked back as they thumped the good guys 7-4. Zach John Pitched very well, but did not get enough run support. We have lost 2 in a row.......

Game 15

This make-up game was played on Wednesday night at Meadowcreek against a tough Blue Demons squad. The Sidewinders opened with a 3 run lead from a bases clearing double by Bryan Carroll. The Demons came roaring back and took a 7-3 lead after 4 innings. The score was 10-5 after 6 and 10-8 in the 8th when the Sidewinders tied the game off a 2 rbi double by Kevin Schmidt. The Demons scored one in the top of the 9th to take the lead.

After a lead off single in the 9th, a bunt put the runner at 2nd base. The Demons intentionally walked Bryan Carroll and then Cody Carlson hit a walk off double to score 2 and win the game (at 11pm!). Zach John once again pitched a great game. Everyone on the squad had at least one hit. Marco Laureano made an incredible diving catch in right field in the 8th inning to stop a potential rally.

Game 16

The Sidewinders played the tough Atlanta A's (11-2) at Lithia Springs with the temperature only 85 degrees, which was quite a respite from the recent high-90's. It was a tight game with the score going back and forth. Bryan Carroll had 3 hits, including a double and he scored 3 runs. Zach John, Cody Carlson and Ben Wallace also had doubles.

With the Sidewinders winning 7-5 in the 7th, 2 consecutive wild pitches allowed the A's to tie the score 7-7. We then played 3 consecutive scoreless innings and the game ended in a tie at the end of 10 innings. So, the Sidewinders kiss their sisters for the second time this season.......

Game 17

The Sidewinders whooped up on the Lookouts at Lithia Springs 19-8. Kevin Schmidt had 3 hits and Cory Brown and Ben Wallace (3 run HR) each had 3 rbi's. Zach John continued his awesome pitching, striking out 6.

Game 18

The Sidewinders destroyed the Black Sox Sunday 17-1 at Lost Mountain. Even though the good guys lost Justin Alexander to ejection for a 'no slide' call at home plate, they won big with only 8 playsers. Cord Stribling had 4 hits including 2 doubles and 3 rbi's. Zach John pitched extremely well with 8 strikeouts in 6 innings before Hurricane Faye ended the game after 6 innings.

Division winners get bye through 1st round of playoffs..........

Sidewinders Win Opening Weekend Series of Playoffs!!

After a bye in the first round for the division champs and even without the talent of pitcher Ted Pratt (college baseball scholarship) and the hitting of Cody Carlson (UGA finance major), the Sidewinders took the weekend series against a tough Dodger team (16-2) by beating them twice.

Zach John pitched a gem on Saturday, giving up ZERO earned runs in 11 INNINGS (129 pitches) and 11 strikeouts, to stake the Sidewinders to a 3-2 victory. Bryan Carroll had 3 hits and scored all three Sidewinder runs! In the second game of the double header, the game was tied in the 9th inning 6-6 but the Dodgers hit a grand slam to end it 10-6. Kevin Schmidt homered in the first inning of the contest. The Sidewinders had six players with multiple hits in the game.

On Sunday, the Sidewinders scored 2 in the first inning and led until the 5th when the Dodgers put a 5 spot on the board. The Sidewinders whittled away, when Marco Laureano scored on an RBI hit by Bryan Carroll in the seventh and then Cord Stribling and Cory Brown came up big with an RBI each in the eighth to tie. Then in the top of the ninth, the Dodgers scored one run to take the lead. With the bases loaded, Zach John came in to pitch, and was able to get a ground ball and a strike out to strand the bases loaded with the Sidewinders down 6-5. The bottom of the ninth started with a walk and a hit batsman before Kevin Schmidt hit a towering 3 run home run to walk-off the field winners for the weekend!

Stay in touch for the semi-finals this weekend. The Sidewinders are one of four remaining teams in the 24 team league! We play the Longhorns (18-3) at Osborne High School.
