May 29, 2018 - Pigs Sweep Pylons, Move Above .500

The Pigs picked up their first sweep of the season, with a pair of wins over the Pylons. 

In Game 1, the Pigs envoked the mercy rule with a 21-8, 5 inning win.  Ty Bampton lead the way for the Pigs, with 3 hits, including a double and 2nd homer of the season.  He also drove in 5 and scored 3 runs.  Theo Stoppels continued to swing a hot bat, gonig 4 for 4, with a double and homer, his team leading 7th.  He both scored and drove in 3 runs.  Chris Mustakas and Ben Church were both 3 for 3 at the dish and each drove in 2 runs.  Church picked up his first victory on the hill, going 5 innings.

In game 2, the Pigs fell behind early, 9-1 after 2 and 14-5 after 3 innings, but were able to rally back to pick up a 18-16 win.  They were able to hold the Pylons to just 2 runs in the final 4 innings.   Bampton and Stoppels, the new Bash Brothers, once again lead the way.  Ty was 4 for 4 with a homer and 2 doubles, 4 runs scored and 4 RBI, giving him 9 on the evening.  Theo was 3 for 4, with a double and his team leading 8th bomb of the year.  He scored 3 times and drove in 4.  Bryce MacDonald hit an absolute moon shot to left centre for his first homer as a Pig.  Church picked up his second win of the season (and of the night), evening his season record to 2-2 with a tie.

Pigs are now 4-3-1 on the year, with their next game is June 6th at 8:30pm vs the Rapids at the Nepean Sportsplex.

May 25, 2018 - Pigs Split with 1st Place Chickadees

The Iron Pigs picked up a double header split against the previously undefeated Chickadees. 

In game one, the Pigs, sporting a 14 man lineup, lost 17-9.  Ty Bampton went 2 for 3, with a double, a run and 2 RBI.  Bryce MacDonald went 2 for 2, and Theo Stoppels, Eric Smithson, and Jim Armstrong (making his season debut) also had 2 hits.  Ben Church took the loss, going 7 innings, with a walk and a strike out.  He is 0-2-1 on the season.

In game two, the bats came alive in a 21-18 win, handing the Chicks their first loss of the season.  Stoppels had 3 hit, including 2 homeruns (giving him a team leading 6 on the year) and 4 RBI.  Bampton had a double, a homer and 2 RBI.  Chris Mustakas added 4 hits, including a homer and a double, while driving in 4.  Andrew Collins also went deep for the Bacon.  Eric Smithson picked up the win on the hill, upping his record to 2-1 on the year.

Pigs next game is Monday, May 28th vs The Pylons at 8:30pm at Dumaurier West.

May 17, 2018 - Pigs Pick Up First Win

The Pigs got their first victory of the year in a split double header vs the Spungoes.

The Iron Pigs dropped game one by a 14-7 count.  Andrew Collins hit a 3-run homer, while Chris Mustakas had 3 hits and 2 RBI.  Ben Church was sadlled with the loss, walking 4 and striking out 1.

In game 2, the Pigs bats got hot and they picked up their first win of the year, 23-11 in a 5 inning, mercy rule game.  Collins hit another homer, and drove in 2.  Mustakas had a double and homer and drove in 3, while scoring 3 times.  Ty Bampton added 3 hits and 5 RBI, while Church contributed 3 hits, 3 runs and 4 RBI.  Ryan Best busted out of his slump with a 4 for 4 game.  Theo Stoppels also added a homerun.  Eric Smithson picked up the win on the hill, walking 3 and striking out 1.

Pigs next game is Wednesday, May 23rd at the Nepean Sportsplex vs the undefeated Chickadees.

May 11, 2018 - Pigs Open Season with a Tie and Loss

The Iron Pigs opened their 7th season on May 9th against the Bootleggers, tying game one, and taking home a loss in game 2.

In game 1, which ended in a 5 inning, time limit 17-17 draw, Eric Smithson led the way with the bats, going 2/4 with a double, homer and 4 RBIs.  Theo Stoppels added 2 runs, 2 hits, including a homer and 3 RBI.  Chris Mustakas also had 3 RBI, to go along with 3 hits and 3 runs.  Rookie Andrew Collins hit is first career homer as a Pig, and added 3 RBI, and fell over the fence.  Ben Church picked up the tie on the mound, giving up 3 homers, while striking out one and walking one.

 The Pigs lost game 2 16-14, is what was also called after 5 due to time.  Stoppels lead the Pigs with 2 homers and 5 RBI.  he also scored 3 times.  The Pigs also got homers from Mustakas, Smithson and Andrew Carr, his first as a Pig, while Collins added 3 RBI.  Smithson took the loss on the hill, giving up 4 homers, walking 4 while striking out 3.

Pigs next see action on Tuesday, May 15th, at 6pm at Dumaurier West.  They take on the Spungoes, who they went 3-1 against last season
