Pigs Rally Again, But Fall Short
Aug. 13, 2012
In game 2 against the Crackers, the Pigs rallied from down 12-3, but fell short in a 12-10 loss.
Once again, the Pigs started out slow with the bats, as they were shut out for the first 3 innings while the Crackers scored 1 in the second to make the score 1-0 after 3.
In the top of the 4th, the Pigs got on the board with a solo homer from Chris Mustakas, his 8th of the year, and an RBI single from Dan Julien. The Crackers scored 3 in the bottom of the innings to make it 4-2 after 4.
After both teams were shut out in the 5th, the Pigs score one in the 6th on a Matt Bennett sac fly. Unfortunately, the Pigs had their worst inning of the night defensively in the bottom of the 6th and the Crackers took advantage, scoring 8 times to take a 12-3 lead heading to the 7th.
The Pigs got hot, but it was too little, too late. After Dan Julien flew out to lead off the inning, a Brendan Duvall single and Dillon Leeder double put runners on 2nd and 3rd. Shane Church then drove them both in with a 2 rbi double to the gap. A single from Terry Gilmer put runners on 1st and 3rd with one out. Jim Armstrong's RBI single added the 3rd run of the inning and set up a 3 run homer by Mustakas, his 9th. After a Ryan Booth ground out, the Pigs got back to back to back singles from Ben Church, Matt Bennett and Trevor Turnbull, with Turnbull's driving in Church. Dan Julien then reached on an error to load the bases and put the go ahead run on first. But the inning and rally ended with when Brendan DuVall popped out to the catcher, making the final 12-10 for the Crackers.
Ben Church took the loss, falling to 4-6-1 on the year.
3 Stars: 3) Shane Church - 2/3, 1 run, 2b, 1b, 2 RBI...2)Ben Church - 4/4, 2 runs, 4x1b, L...1) Chris Mustakas - 4/4, 3 runs, 1b, 2b, 2 HR, 4 RBI
Special Mention to Terry Gilmer at shortstop and Dillon Leeder in right centre for their defensive play over the double header.
