Big Win At State

Aug. 24, 2009

The first game of the State Tournament was a close one for the Snappers as they beat the Midway Snurdbirds 2-1.   It was a pitching battle from the begining as there were no hits on either side into the bottom of the 5th inning.  Matt Merten broke that streak with a chopper through the infield but the game remained 0-0 into the 8th.  Midway capitalized on a couple of hits, and some mistakes defensively, and managed to score the first run of the game in the top of the 8th inning.  The Snappers didn't give up though and made 3 clutch hits in the bottom of the 8th to score 2.   Dan O' Connol hit a huge double to lead off,  Keaton Gustin hit an even bigger single to drive home Dan O, Matt Merten reached on an error to move Keater over, and Brad Haag chopped a single up the middle to score Logan Birr from 2nd who was pinch running for Keater.   Great pitching by Tim Scott, Chad Schwegel and Josh Vorpahl held Midway to only 1 run and the win.   It was an intense game and a big win for the Snappies as they advance further into the State tournament.  Next Game will be at 1:30PM Sat. in Arlington against the Loretto Larks.
