Big Wins to go to State

Aug. 10, 2009

What a big weekend it was for the Snappers who won their first two games of the Region 10C tournament to make it to the Minnesota State Amateur Baseball Tournament!!!  This will be their first time since 1998 to make it to the State Tournament!!! In 1998, as the HR Pesty's Snappers, they made it to State for the very first time but now the team known as the St. Cloud Snappers have made it 11 years later. Saturday started of Regionals for the Snappies against the Granite City Grays.   It was a huge offensive effort for the whole team putting up 11 runs to maintain the lead for the whole game.  Once again great pitching by the Snappers prevailed with efforts from Chris Koenig and Chad Schwegel, draftee from the St. Joseph Saints.   Sundays game was a pitching dual between Sartell and the Snappers as Josh Vorpahl pitched no hit baseball through to the 5th inning.   The 5th turned out to be a rough inning defensively and Sartell took the lead by 4 into the 8th Inning.  But once again the bats came alive for the Snappers and they put up 5 more runs to take the lead going into the 9th.  Tim Scott did great in relief for Josh coming in in the 6th. only letting up one run and shutting Sartell out the rest of the way.  Next weekend finishes off the Region 10C tournament as the Snappers will play the winner of Sartell and Ortho for seeding for the State Tournament.
