The Southern New England Basketball Club (SNEBC) is a registered 501(c)(3) tax-exempt, non-profit association.  The SNEBC is registered with the U.S. Amateur Athletic Union (AAU).  The SNEBC exists for the purpose of providing opportunities for young men and women to develop basketball skills and knowledge, and engage in competition at the highest level possible.  In addition, the SNEBC Shockers are pleased to provide scholarships to qualified student athletes.

William I. Cano and Dorthelia M. Cano lived virtually their entire adult lives in Wichita, KS.  They raised their only son, Steven, in a conservative Midwestern home and taught him to value family, friends, academic excellence, and hard work.  They loved college basketball (especially the Wichita State University Shockers and the University of Kansas Jayhawks) and firmly believed that a personal dedication to athletics could help prepare young men and women for a successful adult life.  Their legacy lives on though the SNEBC Shockers in the form of college scholarships available to qualified young athletes who have demonstrated a commitment to the values Mr. and Mrs. Cano held dear.

The William I. and Dorthelia M. Cano Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually in the spring to graduating high school seniors who meet all of the following criteria:

  1. Academic excellence (i.e., a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 in high school)
  2. Role model for Shockers Values (i.e., Teamwork, Respect, Accountability, Integrity, and Tenacity) as evidenced by personal behaviors on and off the court
  3. Commitment to the Shockers program (e.g., extent of participation as a player or coach, participation in fund-raising efforts)

To apply for this scholarship, please download and complete the application below, and submit it to your high school guidance counselor.  Please ask him/her to contact the SNEBC Program Director (see home page for details) to ensure that the scholarship can be made available at your high school.
