Hawaiian Invite Summer 2018
This summer, the Sunset Water Polo Club will be traveling to Hawaii to compete in the 50th Annual Hawaiian Invitational. This informational flier will hopefully answer all preliminary questions about the event.

July 31 – August 5th 2018
ABOUT THE TOURNAMENT:
Since its inception in 1968, the Hawaiian Invitational Water Polo Tournament has grown to become one of the largest and most prestigious water polo tournaments in the world. The Hawaiian Invitational also enjoys its standing as the oldest annual international water polo tournament in the world, annually attracting as many as 115 teams from around the world. In 2017, teams from the Netherlands, New Zealand, Italy, England, Australia, Brazil and Canada participated in the Hawaiian Invitational.
WHERE IT WILL BE PLAYED:
Tournament games are held in Olympic-sized, 50-meter pools. The University of Hawaiʻi, Punahou School, `Iolani School and Kamehameha School pools, all located within a twenty-minute drive of Waikiki, serve as tournament sites.
Teams should expect to play one game per day during the first five days of the tournament. Those teams that advance in their division will play in a championship match on the last day of the competition, Saturday for 14 and under divisions and Sunday for all other divisions. This leaves ample time to experience the beauty and excitement of Hawaii!!
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR SUNSET FAMILIES:
PROJECTED PRICE PER PLAYER: $1500
DEPOSIT: $50 deposit needed by April 1st. This will be the final day to join the trip!
We will be requiring fundraising involvement from parents and players. Parents may buy out of participation TBD.
1. It was decided that the team goal for fundraising is to raise approximately $60,000.00 so each player can travel for free.
2. If the goal can’t be met we’ll shoot for $30,000.00 covering half the $2050. Per player estimated.
3. Fundraising opportunities in the works:
a. Sponsorships (Headed by Brooks, Mike, Nevin) Goal $20,000.00
b. Monthly swap meet sales (Jen Seaux) 6 x $500.00 = $3000.00
c. Call - a –Thon / Letter campaign (Nevin) $6000.00
d. Paint nights (Coach Joey) $1000.00
e. Bake Sales 10 x $300 = $3000.00
f. Big 3 event (Rob Lovich) $2000.00
g. Club dinner nights (Carrie Stratton, Colleen Kleege) 3 x $1000 =$3000.00
h. Kettle Corn sales (Carrie Stratton) ongoing $5000.00

Our total estimated fundraising at this point brings in $53,000.00. We are still looking for other opportunities, ideas and committee members.
Cost per player:
1. Tournament fee $175.00 (3 teams @10 players per team)
2. Flight (under group contract) $773.01 including all taxes and fees. Carry on only.
3. Transportation $125.00 (15 passenger vans Parent driven)
4. Breakfast and lunches $75.00
5. Group outings $200.00
6. Team swag $125.00
7. Open day excursion $50
8. Hotel (New Otani Kaimana Beach Hotel) $400
9. Individual dinners, purchases, spending money are not included.
10. Coaches flights and hotel $130.00
Our total cost per Player is estimated at $2050.00+/- Obviously depending on number of players and other things this is a work in progress.
Not in any specific order and depending on game schedules. Some ideas are:
1. USS Arizona memorial tour
2. North Shore tour
3. Hike day ( Diamond Head, Manoa Falls, TBD…)
4. Education day (Behind the scenes science tour, Waikiki Aquarium, Loloani Palace, Bishop Museum)
5. Hawaiian Cultural Luau day
6. Chaperoned free day in groups (Moped, Para Sailing, Hanauma Nature Preserve, Honolulu historic tour…)
There will be opportunities to snorkel, surf and beach it every day. We’ll have the players bring snorkel and fins with them. Our hotel is beach front and has some of the best snorkeling in Waikiki.
Depart San Diego July 30th on Hawaiian Airlines HA15 direct to Honolulu 10:20 am arriving 1:35.
Departing Honolulu August 5th on Hawaiian Airlines HA16 direct to San Diego 2:20 arriving 10:50.

Located on the far East end of Waikiki beach in the foothills of Diamond Head.
The players will be housed 4 to a room in 1 bedroom suites or 3 to a room in Diamond head view rooms.
For parents and family members we have special group rates on all the available room choices. Ranging from $150 for the base room to $280 for the Ocean Front Waikiki Deluxe room. Suite options as well.
START PLANNING NOW:
This event will be an incredible experience for everyone involved. Families of players are highly encouraged to attend this event as well! The tournament schedule provides for plenty of time to experience Hawaii. We have excursions planned for each day of the week!
